You know the saying “the devil is in the details”? We take it to mean that the details are important and require our fastidious attention.

But what if that’s not what it means?

What if it’s a warning telling us NOT to focus on the details??... The problem with details is, to see them you have to look at a situation really close up.

That narrows your perspective.

And once you start seeing the details, you really can’t stop!

There’s always another and another and another... It’s easy to get caught up and dig yourself into a deeper and deeper detail hole.

For example, have you ever watched a neat freak at their own party?

They spend the whole time cleaning!

They are so focused on the DETAILS - what needs to be cleaned, cleared, wiped, served -  that they don’t really tap into the experience:

Are people having fun and interacting?

It’s the difference between the little picture and the big picture:

The details are the little picture

The energy is the big picture.

The fun, the flow, the interaction... that’s what really matters!

You can not see both  the big and little picture at once - they are different perspectives.

You have to DECIDE what perspective you will have:

broad or narrow?

And if you’re looking for guidance, I think the “devil is in the detail” is NOT advising to narrowly obsess about every little thing.

I think it’s telling us to leave the devil details alone -It’s a trap, the devil will get you!

After all, no one ever leaves a party raving about how clean it was... Lemme know your thoughts!

Always with love, Dr. Corinne
